Chopper Spins Wildly into Palm Trees at Frequented Southern California Coast

An aircraft hovering near a crowded southern California coastline unexpectedly started spinning out of control, ultimately losing altitude and smashing into a cluster of palm fronds as onlookers watched.

Recordings uploaded online depict the helicopter starting to spin near the shoreline then falling in the direction of the edge of the shore, where it becomes wedged between palm trees and a steps adjacent to the Pacific Coast highway.

Emergency Response Update

Local firefighters said five people were transported to a medical facility involving two who were in the chopper and were “safely pulled from the wreckage” following the accident on Saturday.

Three individuals on the road were injured. Information on their condition were not yet released.
